  • The culminating point in the Massif Central
This is a stratovolcano (several volcanoes overlapping each other and whose eruptions did not happen at the same time). Its formation began 5 million years ago and ended about 250,000 years ago. We find all types of eruptive activity known throughout the world. The intensive volcanic activity that gave rise to the Massif du Sancy can be seen today in a vast wealth of geological phenomena and flora.
Access: after the ascent by cable car, continue your ascent to the summit (20 min) via the steps (viewing table). A signposted path crosses the Sancy ridges.
